9th International Conference on Emerging Zoonoses (ZOO) - Emerging and Transboundary Infectious Diseases

15th November 2020 to 18th November 2020

You are invited to join the 9th International Conference on Emerging Zoonoses with an emphasis on Emerging and Transboundary Infectious Diseases, which will take place in Cali, Colombia, November 15-18, 2020.

Events in the last years have shown us that we remain vulnerable to sudden outbreaks of previously unknown or forgotten zoonotic pathogens as well as to contamination of the food chain. Since May 2017, we witnessed two Ebola epidemics in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The epidemic in the northeastern part has grown into the second largest Ebola epidemic on record. In addition, highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses continue to emerge throughout the world, challenging public and animal health systems. As African Swine Fever virus (ASFV) continues to spread across Southeast Asia, Classical Swine Fever virus (CSFV) reports occur in Japan, and Foot and Mouth Disease virus (FMDV) spread continues with new strains emerging in Southeast Asia, there is increased concern that these diseases will spread to developed countries and devastate their economies. There is a significantly raised awareness that zoonoses and transboundary diseases threaten both human and animal health. Therefore, research and policy must focus on a “One Health” perspective in local, national, and international environments.

In order to properly address these issues in our conference we plan to have special workshops which will be organized by experts in their fields. Potential topics might include:  the ecology of emerging zoonotic and transboundary diseases; the role of wildlife in emerging zoonoses and transboundary diseases; cross-species transmission of zoonotic and transboundary pathogens; emerging and neglected influenza viruses; hemorrhagic fever viruses; emerging and transboundary bacterial diseases; outbreak responses to zoonotic and transboundary diseases; food-borne zoonotic diseases; prion diseases; and modeling and prediction of emergence of zoonoses and transboundary diseases.

The 9th International Conference on Emerging Zoonoses in Cali, Colombia, follows eight successful conferences, each of which provided an interdisciplinary forum for physicians, veterinarians, epidemiologists, immunologists, virologists, microbiologists, public health experts and others concerned with the ever increasing problems associated with the transmission of infectious diseases from animals to humans and the economic impact of transboundary diseases.

We encourage you to join us in Cali, to benefit from a stimulating and challenging scientific program and to experience the rich history and vibrant lifestyle in a city in the heart of Colombia.
