International Veterinary Immunology Symposium IVIS

16th August 2016 to 19th August 2016

Gold Coast Australia, 16 - 19 August 2016

In 2003, the Bill & Melinda gates Foundation (BMGF) launched Grand Challenges in Global Health, which came to include multiple funding partners and awarded 44 grants totaling over $450 million for research projects. In 2007, the BMGF launched Grand Challenges Exploration to engage more of the world's innovation more quickly. Twice each year, Grand Challenges Explorations invites high-risk, high reward proposals on a range of challenges. Initial grants are for $100,000: successful projects can be awarded follow-on grants of up to $1million.

The BMGF is considering a Grand Challenges Exploration (GCE) call in immunology to progress animal vaccines.
A workshop session at the 11th IVIS will allow participants to identify the most important barriers in veterinary immunology that are preventing progress in veterinary vaccinology. The outputs of the session will inform a GCE call to promote "outside of the box" thinking to solve these challenges, increase efforts in cutting edge science, adoption of new technology and stimulate innovation in veterinary immunology and vaccinology.
