Social science expertise, social science methodologies (data collection by interviewing, focus groups, elicitation workshops etc), analytical approaches (particularly related to innovation studies) and state of the knowledge (particularly knowledge exchange with farmers and vets). Animal sciences training to post-graduate level plus working in the international livestock supply industry (genetics sector) gives me a strong background basis for understanding the sector. Previous research on attitudes, behaviours and wider social impacts related to adoption of rapid diagnostics by vets and farmers.

I have two main strands of research. One involves innovation and regulation of life science industries focusing on what might be loosely termed ‘agricultural biosciences’ and how they can contribute to sustainable development. A second strand involves the wider context of research: particularly the conduct of interdisciplinary research, the way in which stakeholders are engaged in that research and the use of information in research.
