Previously worked on marker/DIVA vaccine development for fish against infectious salmon anaemia and koi herpesvirus disease. This involved the application of recombinant protein expression, immunoblotting and ELISA for identification and characterisation of viral antigens that enable serological differentiation between infected and vaccinated fish. More recently, have focused on characterisation of molecular and functional aspects of Atlantic salmon immune response to infection with the copepod parasite, Lepeophtheirus salmonis, with a particular emphasis on vaccine development. Parasite antigen mining has been conducted through immunoproteomic approaches to determine serological and mucosal immune responses to whole louse extracts and secretions from various parasite life stages.
