Quantifying gene regulation and expression in bacterial pathogens (currently pasteurella multocida and campylobacter) during active disease development n the natural host. This involves optimization of existing models of infection and analysis of transcriptional activity in pathologically defined lesions. Taken together with in vitro studies this forms the basis for development of a formalized model of progressive disease development.
This work provides a platform for detailed studies into comparative genomics, analysis of variability in the bacterial population and for for analysis of defined mutant bacterial constructs and rational design of chemotheraputics and vaccines.
