Host-pathogen interaction and the modulation of immune reactions, where the long-term aim is to create better vaccines. To this end, a particular interest is the biology of dendritic cells and the immune system of horses and other animals. This is not only for vaccinating against infectious diseases, but also regarding cancer and allergy.

Graduated as a veterinarian in 1990 from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Berlin, Germany, and subsequently obtained post-graduate degrees there (1994, 2004). In 2005 moved to what is now the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), Weybridge.
