Viruses – equine influenza, West Nile and Japanese encephalitis, Schmallenberg virus, strain variation
Real name:
I am currently involved in the development of pseudotype virus neutralization assays for equine influenza and West Nile, for which neutralization tests with wild-type viruses are problematic because they do not produce cytopathic effects in cell culture or have to be handled at high levels of containment, respectively. I am also involved in various studies of Schmallenberg virus, including application of next-generation phage display to determine the immunodominant epitopes of SBV, which will provide valuable data for the future design of subunit vaccines and tests to discriminate between vaccinated and naturally-infected animals.
