Jonathan Heeney
I am a Veterinary pathologist who's interest is in the immunopathology and immunity to zoonotic RNA viruses. My lab has made a number of key contributions to vaccine development including defining the central role of T-helper responses in vaccine induced immunity to viral infections, in demonstrating viral vaccine protection from cell-associated challenge. We take a comparative approach to vaccine development, using clinically definable endpoints early in the preclinical evaluation process. I pioneered the use of immune correlates in rational vaccine development and initiated the first international think tank and vaccine symposia based on Immune Correlates of Vaccine Protection in the 1990s. Our expertise is in adjuvants and structure based vaccine design, viral vectors and vaccine strategies which target effective and potent B-cell responses.
