Picornaviruses, Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus
Manipulation of the FMDV genome and siRNA screens/proteomics to study virus and host-cell factors involved in virus replication. We are adopting two broad strategies to improve disease control: (i) using ‘reverse genetics’ to attenuate the genome and (ii) use our new knowledge develop new cell-lines FMDV strains for vaccine production. The overall goal of the research is to develop new strategies of vaccine production / produce new vaccine types to increase biosecurity and reduce costs.
