Thangzuanlian Langel

Thangzuanlian (Zuan) Langel is a Research Assistant in the Mucosal Immunology group at The Pirbright Institute, working with Dr. Elma Tchilian. He is interested in how vaccines shape immune responses, especially at mucosal surfaces, and how delivery routes can influence protection against respiratory viruses.

Zuan’s current work supports studies on influenza, including the use of monoclonal antibodies and vaccine delivery in large animal models. He has hands-on experience with immunological techniques such as ELISA, ELISpot, plaque assays, etc.

He holds an MSc in Infection and Immunity from the University of Liverpool, where he studied antibody responses to Japanese Encephalitis Virus, and completed a triple major undergraduate degree in Biotechnology, Chemistry, and Zoology from Christ University, Bengaluru, India.

His research interests include mucosal vaccine strategies, immune compartmentalisation, and host–pathogen interactions. He is particularly keen on exploring how antigen delivery platforms influence the quality, localisation, and durability of immune responses.
